Between Church and State:
The First Ammendment
To have the freedom to choose god (or not), you must be able to exercise free will. Legislating religion takes away that freedom bit by bit until you have states resembling the Taliban. Politics corrupts religion, as religion corrupts politics. To protect individual rights, you must protect the rights of everyone, being strong enough to tolerate others that have beliefs different than your own. In order to secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, the founding fathers gave us the Constitution and Bill of Rights so that government and religion could coexist independently. The ensuing freedoms allowed us to flourish and rise quickly in the sciences and related fields of business. But as we have seen under the current administration, liberty takes a back seat to the politicized religion of the masses. They take polarizing concepts and twist them into idiotic and whimsical policies to the detriment the country and ultimately every citizen.
When someone offers protection, you should be very cautious, especially if they are taking protection money and spying on you without cause or consent. How is the federal government different than mobsters that use scare tactics to get money? We should be more worried about the erosion of liberty (and derived economies) than possibly impending doom. Patrick Henry made the point about as succinctly as possible: "Give me Liberty or give me Death." And we may find that if we act with civility around the world, following the rule of law, many of our current problems would disappear.
